II. BIOPOLITICS
1.“Strategies and mechanisms through which human life processes are managed by governments.
Under regimes of authority over knowledge, power, and the processes of subjectivization. The administration of life.
More: Foucault’s lectures at the Collège de France, particularly “Society Must Be Defended” (1975-76) and “Security, Territory,
Population” (1977-78).
2.Examples of Biopolitics
–One-child policy in China: Implemented to control population growth, this policy had significant social and demographic impacts.
–Tuskegee Syphilis Study: An unethical study where African American men were not treated for syphilis to study the disease’s progression, reflecting racialized biopolitical control.
–Compulsory vaccination programs: While aimed at public health, these programs also raise questions about bodily autonomy and state power.
-Public health measures during pandemics: Governmental restrictions and guidelines during events like the COVID-19 pandemic illustrate state intervention in managing life and health at a population level.
3.Biohacking: A counter-movement to democratize biological knowledge, challenging the conventional gatekeeping by institutions and enabling a participatory approach to science that aligns with the principles of open science.
4.bio materials
5.Resurrecting the Sublime, Dr. Christina Agapakis, Dr. Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg, Sissel Tolaas
6.Art/Design that can: Think, Research and Speculate on themes previously exclusive to biology.
7.Cyclamen’ Pollinator Vibrator
8.Paul Vanouse “America Project” Delves into biopolitics by engaging the public in DNA gel electrophoresis, a technique commonly used in genetic fingerprinting. Participants contribute saliva samples, which are then processed to create a large-scale living artwork, challenging perceptions of identity and genetic determinism. The project critiques the notion of purity and homogeneity in genetics, emphasizing the shared biological heritage of humans, and provokes discussions on how biopolitical power shapes our understanding of identity and belonging.
9.Quantifiable data:
The ocean in science 361,132,000 square kilometres, 1,335,000,000 cubic kilometers of water, Acidification
10. Charles Lim Yi Yong: SEA STATE
11. knowledge in science (a Generalization)
-Data
–Quantifiable: what we have instruments for, what can be measured
-Intended Objectivity
–non-Quantifiable:the rest of the experience
–Goal: Truth
12. Deleuze and Guattari in: What is philosophy? Art as a type of thinking that takes place directly in and through a sensible medium.
13.Knowledge has different perspectives. Each explanation serves a function
The parable of the blind men and the elephant dates back to Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain writings.

……and for some people, it is an elephant
ART produces knowledge. changes behaviour. allows you to see the world like never before.: complexity, possibility, ambiguity.“
III. BIO REACTOR for ALGAE, ODONTELLA AURITA
with Maarten Smith
a. ODONTELLA AURITA

b. BIO REACTOR
Building a bioreactor with my colleague, we are observing the growth rate of diatoms in different environments: one bottle is equipped with an air stone, while the other is not.

from sketches to the final product

IV. Learning 2D & 3D software: CLO3D, INKSCAPE, BLENDER

V. BIO PLASTICS -week 2
a. BIO RESIN
After a week, a layer of mold appeared on the bioresin. I washed the layer with warm water and soap, along with the mold, a layer of the composition also diluted. I wiped the composition with ethanol, and after it dried, I noticed that the structure of the composition and the colors have changed.

BIO RESIN final

b) BIO SILICONE week 2
The biosilicon: the final result is extraordinary, it hasn’t undergone significant changes, the colors have mixed and spread differently compared to the original composition, and I observed a very slight shrinkage of the composition, about 5%. The texture is semi-transparent, flexible, durable, malleable, and generates great aesthetic ideas.

c) CRYSTALS

VI. BACTERIA week 2

VII. MORE TO EXPLORE
The Algae Opera, 2012 Projects by Michael Burton & Michiko Nitta
EAT LIGHT: DAWN OF THE PLANTIMALS
The majestic looking Amethyst Mushroom
